aka The Zacapa Session

How much excitement can you fit into one day? Not enough when you’re dealing with World Class material, obviously… Right now we’re with Group 3 as they’re being guided by Dan Dove, Tom Aske and Tristan Stephenson on the merits of Zacapa rum. And to make things even more exciting (read difficult), they’ve broken the rum down into 54 different flavour profiles and rebuilt it into an indicator liquid.

What does this mean for the competitors? They only have to reconstruct an exact replica relying on their sense of smell and taste, that’s all! Talk about tough – the only preparation they could do for this particular challenge was to immerse themselves in every nuance of Zacapa – not a hardship when you’re drinking it but a tad more difficult when you’re tasked with recreating the smooth, rich taste. Probably the toughest task of the entire competition. AND they have to write a ‘sell’ for it as well. 45 minutes max…
