This evening we spent a very agreeable hour at Gordon’s Speakeasy, Selfridges, talking about London and its place as the cocktail capital of the world. And of course we also served up a few of our favourite drinks…

Hannah Wooley’s Punch (courtesy of Hawksmoor)
Serves 4 – 6
1 bottle claret (red Bordeaux)
200ml good Cognac
125 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
50 ml sugar syrup
50 ml nutmeg-infused syrup
orange and lemon slices or long strips of their zest
whole nutmeg to grate on top
In a puch bowl pour all the ingredients, except the lemon and orange zest and nutmeg. Stir, add the citrus and grate over a little nutmeg. Just before serving add ice.
White Lady Cocktail (The Savoy Cocktail Book)
1/4 Lemon juice
1/2 Dry Gin
Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
Vesper Martini (Dukes Bar)
75ml of good quality dry gin
25ml of vodka
½ a shot of dry vermouth
Shake all the ingredients and strain into a chilled martini glass.
Espresso Martini (Dick Bradsell)
50ml Ketel One vodka
10ml sugar syrup
35ml hot espresso coffee
3 coffee beans to garnish
Shake ingredients together vigorously over ice. Pour into a Martini glass and garnish with the three coffee beans.

8 x 2.5 cm cubes of fresh pinapple plus extra for garnish
3 scoops coconur sorbet (Haagen Dazs do a good one)
25 ml Elements 8 Spiced Rum
25 ml Gosling’s Black Seal rum
maraschino cherry to garnish
Paper Parasol (essential)
Whizz all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and pout into a hurricane glass. Garnish with pinapple, maraschino cherry and paper parasol. Serve with straw.
