We’ve always had a soft spot for Hanna Lee Communications, the award-winning PR and marketing agency doing all kinds of fab things in New York. And now, with the launch of its Global Bartender Travel Scholarship, we have to admit, we love them a whole lot more.
Here’s why. Do they need to be giving away $15,000 of their hard-earned cash to a bunch of bartenders? Of course they don’t! But rather than plough the money back into their business, Hanna and her team have rather selflessly decided to award $1,000 a-piece to 15 bartenders – that’s one for each of the 15 years the agency has been trading, increasing by $1,000 every year. Now, if that isn’t something to cheer about, we don’t know what is.
So what’s the skinny? Simple. Hands up who’s ever checked social media and felt like they’re missing out because they haven’t got the cash to join their peers hobnobbing with industry greats at Tales of the Cocktail, Bar Convent Brooklyn, Bar Convent Berlin or the Lisbon or Athens Bar Shows? Then this award is for you. The $1,000 is yours to put towards attending any one of the growing number of spirits industry conferences around the world. Good, eh?
All you have to do to be in with a chance of nabbing the cash is follow the agency on Instagram and post a photograph of yourself in action behind the bar using the hashtag #hlcscholarship. Then include a short paragraph on why you’ve chosen bartending as your career and finally, name the conference or event that you’d like to attend and why. Here’s a few to help you: there’s Tales of the Cocktail, Portland Cocktail Week, Camp Runamok, San Antonio Cocktail Conference, Singapore Cocktail Week, Bar Convent Brooklyn, Arizona Cocktail Weekend, Bar Convent Berlin, London Cocktail Week, Paris Bar Show, Roma Bar Show and Florence Cocktail Week to name but a few.
Entries are open now until 30 November 2019 and will be judged by a Global Mentor Committee (see below). Winners will be announced in December 2019.
